Dowa Rock Temple Dowa Rock Temple (Dowa Raja Maha Viharaya) is an ancient rock temple located near Bandarawela, famous for its impressive 38-foot unfinished Buddha statue carved directly into a high granite cliff face. Dating back over 2,000 years to the reign of King Walagamba, this historic sanctuary features beautiful Kandyan-style cave paintings and a mystical underground cobra cave. Situated along the main Badulla–Bandarawela road, it is an easy and rewarding stop alongside nearby highlights like Ella town, Rawana Falls, and Demodara Nine Arch Bridge.
